For most, Thanksgiving is a time of the year to reflect on what you have been given, to be thankful for all that’s good in your own life. This season the FortuneBuilders team agreed there is no better way to give thanks than to give back…
What started as an idea over an impromptu team dinner, quickly turned into us initiating a San Diego Thanksgiving Basket Brigade!
In seven days time, our entire team came together to contribute over $4,500. I am so touched by everyone’s generosity, not just monetary but their time and effort as well! We bought food, supplies, and gift cards to make and deliver dozens of Thanksgiving Day baskets to needy families in our community.
I share this with you today not to impress you, but to impress upon you that one small act of generosity on the part of one caring person can transform their lives.
This holiday season, nearly 49 million Americans don’t know where their next meal will come from. Hard working families all across the nation are making difficult decisions between buying food and paying the rent.
We made all deliveries anonymously, no mention of FortuneBuilders or where the basket came from. It was giving in its purest form – not about recognition, or getting credit – but about experiencing human connectedness in its simplest form, “paying it forward.”
Inside each card was this handwritten message:
The indescribable joy each and every one of us felt as we prepared and delivered these baskets simply can’t be put into words…
The look of surprise and gratitude on families faces, knowing that someone is watching out for them and has not forgotten about them. No matter how hard times seem, in that moment there was a glimmer of hope.
We were received with tears of joy, ear-to-ear smiles, and hugs from children. The experience was PRICELESS.
Truth be told, I am not sure which one of us was more blessed the families or us for having the amazing opportunity to make this happen.

True happiness is not achieved by just real estate or business success, it’s achieved by living a life filled with meaning, purpose, and the drive to grow and contribute. To us that is living deliberately.
